Good chips to have fun; but don't expect great quality. Jan 09, 2009
By Andy P. I bought this set, with knowledge of other types of chips available, material, weight, and quality of poker chips. I have thoroughly researched poker chips and decided on a cheap set since I'm not a serious poker player and wanted to just have fun.
PROS - Chips feel and sound solid. - Great price for what you're getting. It's 500 chips, with the right amount of each, comes with cards, dice, and the standard dealer button. The "aluminum case" holds the chips for storing away.
CONS - Inconsistency of chip sizes. When shrink wrapped, a pack of 50 chips for one stack is either smaller or bigger than another stack. I thought I did not get all 500 chips, but everything is there. The chips, when compared one on one, are almost identical, however, when stored away, you can clearly tell there is an inconsistency in size. - Cheap cards. I did not expect the cards to be of good quality, but I bought it disregarding the cards. They are thin, have a very cheap coating, and if bent, will crack and leave a good crease that is noticeable. - Aluminum case is not durable. When I opened the case, the molding at the bottom used to hold the chips cards and dice was cracked, bent, and not in good condition. BE AWARE: this case is not meant to be carried around for a long period of time or to be handled roughly. It is scary to carry the case around because since the total weight of the chips is pretty heavy, the latch on the case does not click into place. The work around is that it does come with a set of keys to keep the case locked, but the lock is flimsy and locks after you shake the key around several times. Even so, I'm sure that if you knock the case against a wall when it's lock, the lock can pop open and picking up 500 chips from the floor is not a fun thing.
OVERALL It's a great set to start with and just to have fun, especially if you are not a serious player. The price is good for the chips, and you can even shop around for a separate aluminum case if you really wanted to. It's better to just keep this set in one place instead of moving it from house to house. You will not be playing with the case, and quality playing cards are cheap. The chips are what you need to focus on, and for this price, the chips alone are worth it.

Easily bent latches on case Nov 11, 2006

I purchased these chips three months ago and have been using them about once a week ever since. The chips themselves seem fine. Today, however, I noticed that one of the latches which holds the case closed was bent and no longer latched properly. I bent it back into shape, but it's distressing how easily the piece bends out of and in to the correct shape. If you plan on traveling with these chips, beware that the case is not sturdy.

nice budget composite chip set Dec 11, 2008

For the price, the chips are excellent. Don't know if they are regulation weight, but they feel, sound and play nicely. The set is quite heavy, (13 lbs total shipping weight) the case, handle and locks are a bit flimsy considering the weight of the chips. Fortunately, I won't be doing any traveling with them. Just use care if you have to carry them about. Probably unnecessary, but I lock the latches of the case for added peace of mind. The chips get 5 stars, but case only gets 3.

Great value Apr 11, 2011
By Mocha This product is a great value. There were less chips then some of them I saw, but there is enough to play with 6 or 8 players. The cards were thin, so I replaced them. Chips were a nice weight and the case was great.
